I actually like how Kevin is being portrayed. I always wished that he had a bad boy boyfriend in the comic books -- a real bad boy boyfriend as opposed to Devon who was usually just surly.

I get more of a bad vibe from Kevin than Joaquin. Joaquin seems like a diamond in the rough. I feel nothing for Kevin, as if he is empty inside. Maybe I just don't like his cutesy behavior so much I wonder if there's something bad behind it. There is something amoral about him.

It's "Riverdale." Of course there's something amoral hidden within Kevin.

Here are my thoughts:

Cheryl's a bitch to Veronica's mom and Veronica, but it turns out that she was right to be suspicious of Hermione.

LOL at Cheryl inviting herself to sit with Veronica at the drive-in. (And Cheryl sucking on that Twizzler / Red Vine was yummy.) I guess, for all of her talk about wanting Veronica to remember her place, she isn't ashamed to be seen hanging out with her, not even on the back of a pick-up truck.

I expected some kind of Cheryl/Veronica scene after Cheryl sent Kevin away for snacks, but nothing happened.

Why, why, WHY did Betty take the gun home with her?! (Fun fact: I wrote a fanfic back in 1999 in which Betty bought a gun and hid it in her dresser drawer, but at least that was somewhat justified - if ill-conceived.)

So Cheryl and Kevin definitely drive. Heck, Cheryl had TWO driving scenes in this episode. I guess the show really is saying they turned 16 over the summer before sophomore year. Did anyone here know any kids in that situation in high school?

So I guess Ms. Grundy is gone. I actually didn't mind the storyline, even though some people found it squicky. Then again, I ship Cybersix/Lori. Anyone remember "Cybersix"?

Jughead's a movie buff. This is consistent with his portrayal on "Archie's Weird Mysteries" - but broader. On that show, he was just into horror movies.

Betty keeps a diary. Does anyone know any teens today that keep handwritten diaries?

My son is 16 and he has friends with their licenses as sophomores. Like Kevin, they borrow their wheels from their parents.

She's not the real Grundy, but had assumed her identity.  She's gone now.

It's not anti-gun propaganda for people to react to finding the gun hidden away in a lockbox in the car of a shady person, especially when they and their friends are in the middle of a murder investigation involving a gun.

I actually like how Kevin is being portrayed. I always wished that he had a bad boy boyfriend in the comic books -- a real bad boy boyfriend as opposed to Devon who was usually just surly.

Also, I was excited to see Lochlyn Munro in this episode as Betty's dad. I've had a crush on him since I first saw him in "Dead Man on Campus" in the 90s!

My husband was working late tonight, so I ended up watching alone for most of the show. But it was a good one.  :smitten:

I don't think they can do new shows about anything except Sabrina. The other characters aren't familiar to people and they are not very good except for Josie, but I don't think a Riverdale Josie spinoff will happen.

There might be some power to taking lesser known or unknown Archie/MLJ properties that lack emotional connections with today's audiences and recreate them with modern upgrades. Stuff like Sam Hill, That Wilkins Boy, Katie Keene, Ginger, Hangman... Whether updated MLJ characters appeal to modern audiences or whether they're updated well is another matter.

Old episodes of Poirot again.

I was reading IVX #4 and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #17 this weekend. Fun stuff. :)

Looking forward to Wednesday. The next issue of Archie will come out this week. Then it's a new "Riverdale" on Thursday night. Each week, I talk a new friend into watching the show. By the time the show ends, I'll have increased the ratings by a negligible amount!  ???

General Discussion / Re: Sears/Kmart
February 13, 2017, 08:43:30 PM
We still have a Kmart in town. More often than not, it's the box store that I shop at when I need to go to a box store. It's closer than Walmart and the lines flow faster. Every so often, news articles show up about new Kmarts that are closing down and I keep looking to see if our store is closing. So far, so good. But it's just a matter of time.

I'm watching an old Agatha Christie TV movie called "The Seven Dials Mystery" on YouTube.

It's interesting to see some of the reprinted stories from the 40s and 50s. There's stuff like that story, but also lots of racially questionable imagery and characters that never would be tolerated now.

Welcome/Introductions / Re: Howdy y'all

I love Veronica, Kevin, Jughead, and Cheryl on "Riverdale." Archie is okay, as is Betty. But that wig looked awful on her in the last episode. Maybe het guys like that, but it just looked odd on her to me.

Welcome! I'm a fan of Kevin and "Riverdale," though I like Jughead too. :)

I was just watching "Garage Sale Mysteries" or something like that on cable. Now I'm putzing around waiting for this weekend's episode of "Paranormal Lockdown" to download onto my computer. It features Malvern Manor, a haunted property in another corner of Iowa.
