  • Vegan Jughead: My wife used to watch him on All My Children.  He's kind of a weird choice for Mr. Lodge, but I guess no weirder than the rest of the characters!

  • DeCarlo Rules: Only one Josie comic. About a dozen issues of Sabrina, a dozen issues of Veronica, a dozen Archie Giant Series issues, half-a-dozen B&V Spectaculars, 9 FCBD and HCF issues I was missing. A bunch of different #100, 200, 300 & 400 issues, and a bunch of miscellaneous stuff.

  • DeCarlo Rules: Went a little nuts today and ordered over $200 worth of Archie Comics back issues online. I'm just too impatient to wait until that stuff just happens to turn up somewhere in the bargain bins.

  • DeCarlo Rules: Aw, but it's just a publicity shot. They didn't replicate the most important aspect of that iconic image, which is that Betty is looking at Archie, Archie is looking at Veronica, and Veronica is looking at no one...

    September 13, 2017, 07:22:57 AM
  • Tuxedo Mark: Back! Power went out around 9:16ish PM on Sunday night and came back on around 6:30 PM tonight, so a little over 45 hours without power. It was unpleasant, but we didn't suffer any major damage. On Monday morning (after the storm had passed), a mirror in a hallway, which had been hanging for "at least 25 years" (according to my mom), fell for no apparent reason. The middle section broke into little pieces, but they all stayed in place. None of them fell on the floor. Also, the storm destroyed part of the chicken cage, due to water building up on the tarp, so we removed the tarp and fixed the cage as best as we could. Other than that, just a lot of sweeping and raking.

All About Archie / Re: Betty & Veronica - Lucey vs. DeCarlo
« on: September 09, 2017, 11:33:57 PM »
They say, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
I find DeCarlo's B&V more visually appealing overall. Even when the girl's facial expressions are mad or angry, they still look cute to me. When Lucey draws B&V angry--they're not so cute. Just my opinion.
I do think that Lucey's Archie seems to display a wider range of expressions than Archie's DeCarlo's, and he's good at capturing the physical slapstick-type situations.

In the bottom panel, this is NOT Betty. I remember this story....

All About Archie / Re: Your Pal Archie #2

In the world of Archie Comics, concussions are always cause for hilarity ensuing.  ;D

I liked #1, if only for the reason of getting some new classic Archie stories again, and longer ones. I think I liked the Jughead learning to drive story better than the first part of Archie wins the lottery, but whether it's because I've gotten past the redesigned looks now or whatever, I have to say I liked #2 overall a lot better, especially the conclusion of the 2-parter. Reggie getting amnesia from a bonk on the head sounds like a real throwback to the Doyle-Lucey kind of stories from the late-50s/early-60s, which is a good thing.
I think Reggie's faking it. He's up to a massive joke on everyone.... :)

I actually don't read any webcomics at this time, though I'd heard of GPF.  I have purchased a few kickstarter collections of webcomics such as The Meek, Sorcery 101 and Widdershins.

I did buy the Batman '66/Legion comic, but haven't read it yet.  That will be part of the catch up with comics that have come in over the past couple of weeks.  I usually get caught up with comics shortly before going back to school.  I also have a ton of manga volumes and graphic novels/trades that I"m way behind on and won't be caught up on any time soon.
Yes, thank you for providing the GPF link as well. I'm just now getting here.....

News and New Releases / Re: ARCHIE COMICS FOR AUGUST 2017
« on: May 29, 2017, 06:58:33 AM »
See, here's the thing we need to take into account... it's been a couple of years now since we've seen a new story written or drawn by anyone but Dan Parent. Now all of a sudden we see one credited as written by Dan, but drawn by an artist who we haven't seen a new story from in a couple of years -- Bill Galvan. Now, it's possible they may just have overlooked that one somehow when they were clearing the inventory of already paid-for work, but I don't think so. Notice that for the last six months, all of the digests released in any given month follow some kind of theme. In this round of solicitations the digest theme is "Back-To-School", which is as good an excuse as any for a story starring Dilton Doily. That indicates to me that Dan wrote a bunch of themed back-to-school stories for the digests, and drew all of them but one. Maybe he needed some help, because he's busy working on DIE KITTY DIE, YOUR PAL ARCHIE, plus the usual 5-page digest stories and covers... and he didn't draw the covers this month either. They may be old covers they just found that hadn't been used yet, but even so... I think that "How Shocking" 5-pager is a for-real, newly-commissioned art job by Bill Galvan. Either that or the credit is a typo... :(

I follow Bill Galvan on Facebook.  This is indeed new work for him.  He's been posting that he's doing covers and digest stories for Archie.
That's great! I'd love to see some new stories done by Jeff Shultz for Archie as well, not just from Super Suckers....

Announcements / Re: New: enhanced site security
« on: May 28, 2017, 06:20:15 PM »

Just in case anyone didn't see my reply to the other topic about the issues, everything should be fixed now. The post form being broken was due to a server setting that was somehow messing up the URLs, and the security error was due to a hidden setting related to the addon that rewrites the URLs.

Got a new problem for you, sorry. You know in the albums where you have "newer" or "older" at the bottom of a page panel where you can go to the next or previous page panel? Well, some pages have them, and others don't. One has to go back to an album page with the 24 panels, then click on a panel, as opposed to clicking through the pages...

General Discussion / Re: "Future Quest"...
« on: April 28, 2017, 10:52:17 PM »
Future Quest #10 had the heroes finally getting organized, as Space Ghost is conscious and recovered from his injuries, and he's able to provide the Quest team and InterNation agents with some valuable intel regarding Omnikron. What remains of the Herculoids (Tarra, Igoo, Zok, and Gleep) also arrived on Earth to join in the battle. We saw Tundro's demise in the first issue, and this issue it was mentioned that Gloop had also been absorbed into Omnikron. I have to admit I don't recall what happened to Zandor and Dorno -- are they still alive?

We also got to see, in this issue, the new Mightor meet his prehistoric predecessor via an accidental trip by Ty through the void, and the original Mightor gives him some tips on how to use the power-club. It's kind of surprising to find out that the original Mightor lived in the prehistoric past of Earth, since I always assumed he just lived on some other prehistoric world somewhere in the universe (if not an alternate-Earth timeline), since there are many strange things in Mightor's world (flying, flame-breathing dragons for one) that never existed in the past of our planet. In some ways Mightor's world just seemed a little like Amzot, the Herculoid's planet, but inhabited by more human (or humanoid) tribes of people.

That set me to wondering a whole bunch of things about the H-B Universe.

1. Why haven't Vapor Man, Gravity Girl, and Meteor Man taken a larger role in fighting Omnikron? You'd think the Galaxy Trio would be as much or more aware of the danger of Omnikron as Space Ghost, and being among the most powerful of all the H-B heroes, their particular talents could be very helpful in combatting this menace.

2. For that matter, what about Kid Comet, Astra, and Moleculad? Do they even exist in this universe? You'd think that a group named the Teen Force had something to do with the Space Force of which Space Ghost was once a member...

3. What about other H-B heroes conspicuously among the missing? Young Samson & Goliath, and Blue Falcon & Dynomutt? Will we ever see them? Admittedly Blue Falcon is a bit underpowered for this type of situation, but Race Bannon and Jade are doing all right in this crisis without any super powers.
Sorry about just responding, DR. Good question about the Galaxy Trio. Maybe the writers think they have enough characters, and the GT would be too much, or something. I would have liked to see them, though...

All About Archie / Re: Classic look coming back...with a twist

Don't care for Dan Parent. Too pedestrian/generic for me.

More a fan of Goldberg, Ruiz, DeCarlo, Crane, Legace, Hartley, Montana.

Thanks, Mr. Lodge.

I happen to like what Dan is doing here, but I do wish the company would have the guts to let him just go full CLASSIC!
Thank you for responding. have you heard from Mr. Parent that this extra book will cut into his Die Kitty Die work?

Got a nice stash uploaded today in my second album! Goldberg-drawn Action Archie and Chuck goodies that include a Riverdale blizzard and earthquake (though both not in the same story, and the earthquake isn't even the main plot--go figure), Melody encourages a boy stalker, a Jughead story, and more! Enjoy!  ;D

All About Archie / Re: Character Ethics
« on: March 30, 2017, 06:36:28 PM »

First of all, thank you for lifting this story from my album, stylishnotebook:)

One thing I think we're missing here is why the nurses would say what they said about Ronica's actions with making a portion of the dolls in the first place. Obviously there was a reason, which is because to them Ronica (and her family) were being perceived as being too cheap to give money to their hospital, even though Ronica thought about about having Mr. Lodge give something to it. The theme here in this story I believe, is misconception. Betty knows her buddy better than anyone, even apparently, Archie, which is why DR, he didn't come to Ronica's defense. Everyone but Betty thinks Ronica is quite frankly, selfish and snobby, even though they still generally like her. Her (and her family's) reputation is they're "better than us" because of their wealth. Witness the opening scene, where Ronica only seems concerned about her needs, with all of those packages she and her servent are carrying. Then, Ronica mildly complaining about the color of her new sportscar. How could any of you not think of her caring only about herself? The reputation of the Lodges is well known throughout Riverdale like this, rightly or wrongly.

The heartbreaking closing scene is quite telling, of course. I've never felt more sorry for Ronica. However, there's obviously hope because Ronica let it affect her. Being the type of person she is, she'll try to do better as a person, and with Betty's help, she'll make it stick to doing more for those less fortunate than her. Witness another story in my album, "A Wise Shopper", where Ronica secretly purchases a dress a little girl wanted. I'd like to imagine that this story takes place after "Poor Little Rich Girl", where she's trying. Meh...

All About Archie / Re: You Can Say What You Want...
« on: March 25, 2017, 03:27:38 PM »

Okay, do you know what the cartoon Shazzan's about? I suspect most of you don't (though DeCarlo Rules probably does  8)  ), so I'll explain: The toon, created by Hanna Barbarra in 1967, was about two sibling teens (a boy and a girl) who discovered a treasure chest in a cave near their home. They opened the chest and found two halves of a ring that formed the word "Shazzan". They put the rings on, and when they put it together, they were sent back to time to the Arabian Nights. There, they found a genie named Shazzan, who informed them that they had to find his master to deliver the rings before he could return them home. Thus, the two would have many adventures in the interim while searching for Shazzan's master. The two could summon Shazzan by putting together the rings and saying his name, thus he would protect them, and take care of them. They would meet many bad guys who either wanted to destroy them, get their rings for themselves, or both.

The answer is that the two sibling teens have the same name as two characters in Archie: Chuck and Nancy. And now you know.  :D  I wonder if someone from ACP saw the cartoon and wondered if the two names would be good to use for their two new African-American characters they were about to create. Since Archie's Chuck and Nancy were created in the late 60's/early 70's, it's not that much of a stretch to actually consider this...

I thank any of you who read this thread for not Googling to get the answer, or if you did Google, you didn't answer it here after using a search engine....  ;)

All About Archie / Re: Character Ethics
« on: March 24, 2017, 04:47:43 PM »

1) Reggie. Attempted sexual assault (technically), lying about his boat running out of gas.

2) Ronica. Ditching Archie over a fancy swimsuit she doesn't want to get wet. Criticizing Betty for being soft (just before getting her just desserts, btw) after Betty offers to fix their rubber raft for them to use again.

3) Betty, for yes, getting back at Ronica, even though Ronica deserved it. Betty could've simply not said anything about offering to "fix" the raft for them.

4) Archie, for ditching Betty like that after Ronica twisted him around her cute little pinky, asking for forgiveness.

One is the worst, to four, which is the least. Did I miss anything?  :)
