  • DeCarlo Rules: @Kallell - Right. That's what I meant. The solicitations that came OUT for the months of November, December, and January... as Diamond Comics Distribution dates their catalogs. And those ACP comics digests solicited in those catalogs would indeed have shipping dates in the months of January, February, and March.  Which means ALL the issues of Archie, World of Archie, Betty and Veronica, and B & V Friends in those solicitations are JUMBO COMICS digests. Unlike those titles, Riverdale Comics Digest, Marvel Comics Digest, and Archie and Me Comics Digest haven't varied in their format from one issue to the next.
    January 15, 2018, 12:22:20 PM
  • Archie Comics Collector(Kalell): Very interesting observation DeCarlo Rules. Actually December 2017 was the last month in which there was still three Digest formats: Annual, Comics Double Digest and a Jumbo Comics Digest. As I looked through Jan, Feb and March solicits it seems that the main two formats are Comics Digest 128 pager: Archie and Me and the rest of the main Archie Digests will just be Jumbo Comics Digest 192 pagers. They seem to be doing away with the Annuals and Comics Double Digests for now.
    January 15, 2018, 11:41:08 AM
  • DeCarlo Rules: Looking back through the ACP solicitations from November, December and January, it just dawned on me that EVERY regular digest title solicted (except for Archie and Me Comics Digest, Riverdale Comics Digest, and Marvel Comics Digest) is a JUMBO COMICS Digest (192 pages). Are Jumbo Comics Digests the new permanent format? It sure looks that way.

All About Archie / Jughead: The Hunger
« on: January 21, 2018, 11:32:19 AM »
I just read issue 2 of Jughead: The Hunger (3 if you count the "one shot").

This is a really good book and since Roberto isn't working on it, it's actually being published.

The Kennedys artwork is really good and for some reason Joe Eisma did the second half of this issue and his art is fine for this story too.

I actually thought the one shot wasn't that great but took a chance on the regular series and it's much improved over the one shot.

Good story and just enough humor.

I have no idea how it's selling but it's been a pleasant surprise.

The Little Book of SUPERMAN
The Little Book of WONDER WOMAN
H.P. LOVECRAFT'S THE HOUND and Other Stories
(adapted by Gou Tanabe)
SCOOBY-DOO TEAM UP (with the Legion of Super-Heroes) #33
(of 6)
BUGS BUNNY (1990) #2 - Strangely enough, of the 3 stories in this issue, NONE of them was a Bugs Bunny story!
(of 6)
NEMO HC (adapted by Bruno)
20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA HC (adapted by Gary Gianni)
What in the world is a "Little "Book"?   ???  And what did you think about the Birdman book, DR? I  liked the part about Avenger being able to understand Birdman....

I just got The Life With Kevin Book. I skimmed through it. I can't wait to read it.

How about Chloe Mancuso as a photographer, Trula Twyst as a psychologist or Cricket O'Dell as an investment banker?

I picked up a number of issues of March of Comics, a promotional series that ran for nearly 500 issues back in the 1940s-1980s.

No more Archie and Me digest!  >:(  Why? Those stupid Archie Babies! I hate them!  >:(  I'd sooner read Katy Keene than that drivel!  :tickedoff:

I guess they must have figured -- it worked for Disney Babies and Baby Looney Tunes, so why not?

But I totally agree -- of all the many creatively bankrupt concepts ACP has ever generated, Archie Babies has to rank as the absolute worst (and this from a company that brought out comics based on Koosh-Kins...) Yes, I am done with Archie and Me Comics Digest.

The Archie-centric digest titles (as opposed to B&V) have really reached a nadir lately. They have they dropped any variety or reprints of interesting or little-seen series, apart from the drivel mentioned above. I guess they must really be desperate, since they've re-instituted the free digital comic giveaways after two years, with no fanfare whatsoever. These are apparently now under the title Archie's Funhouse Dollar Digest.
Now, here I could go for the free stuff. Is the free digital on their site?

This is from Archie Jumbo Comics Digest #285, the first digest issue to appear in 2018.
promo code:  WINTER18
(code valid until 02/08/18)

The free digital comic is Archie's Funhouse Dollar Digest #35.
Thank you, DR! Free is free!  :2funny:

Copies of both Super 'Suckers #3 & #4 just arrived from the printer and they look amazing!  Each contains a full-color, self-contained 64 page story for only $3.99, plotted and co-scripted by me, Darin Henry (Seinfeld, Futurama, etc), with art by Jeff Shultz (Betty & Veronica), colors by Glenn Whitmore and lettered by Marshall Dillon.  They both go on sale January 31st, 2018 along with new printings (featuring new Jeff Shultz covers!) of issues 1 and 2.

And, for the first time ever, all the new Binge Book releases will be distributed in all 50 US states via Sitcomics' new "Sell-Through Distribution" System by which participating stores can receive totally free copies of The 2018 Binge Book Catalog which they will give away to their pull-list subscribers starting January 3rd.  Those stores will take customer orders until January 25th and all ordered books will then be sent to stores by their on-sale date of January 31st, 2018.

I've posted an (almost) up to date list of participating stores at  so click on over and if your local comic shop is not on the list, they can be added by contacting me at and I'll ship out catalogs for free the next business day.  You can also preview scenes from the actual comics at Thanks for your patience, everybody, because the wait is almost over and some really funny vampire comics are on their way!

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY - OFFICIAL COLLECTOR'S EDITION MAGAZINE HC - I've not seen the streaming series yet. Looks interesting.

POPEYE CLASSICS VOL 10 HC - A quick read and super-enjoyable, as always. Bud Sagendorf's Popeye is the one I'm most familiar with. He was a former assistant to E.C. Segar, Popeye's creator, and drew the comic book stories from #1 (published by Dell Comics in 1948) until #72 (published by Gold Key Comics in 1964), and the Popeye newspaper strip from 1959 (which is where this volume ends, with issue #49) until 1986. Sagendorf's Popeye combined the Segar version with the more familiar and popular Fleischer Brothers animated version from the 1930s. The stories are brilliantly inventive, stream-of-consciousness little epics. As an example, in issue #46, we get the complete story of Swee'pea, when he asks Popeye to fill him in on who he is and how he became Popeye's "adoptik boy-kid". Hopefully Craig Yoe and IDW can continue this series (should be another 4 or 5 hardcover volumes) until the conclusion of Sagendorf's run on the comic. The single-issue reprint series (entitled Classic Popeye) is already up to issue #65, so only another dozen issues to go until the end of Sagendorf's comic book version.

BETTY AND VERONICA DOUBLE DIGEST #258 - Still has the highest page count of classic Dan DeCarlo stories. Nice to see a new Jeff Shultz B&V story (and the return of Noelle Claus). Cramming more special sections into this digest is kind of a trade-off, because now they're as short as 11 pages. In this issue we get Li'l Jinx (eh...), Josie, Sabrina plus 2 classic Doyle/DeCarlo Betty & Me stories, in addition to the more usual recent stuff.

MY FRIEND DAHMER by Derf Backderf (OGN) - It's now been made into a indy film adaptation, so they did a new printing with a movie photo cover. Been meaning to read this for ages. Outstanding. The creator of the graphic novel was a fellow classmate of Jeffrey Dahmer's who knew him in high school, and he details his weird behavior even then. In addition to Derf's own memories and those of his friends, he also draws material from interviews with Dahmer himself, his parents, and on investigative news reports at the time of Dahmer's arrest in 1991, when Derf's then-girlfriend was a local reporter who was covering the story. Creepy and chilling -- yet the author also presents Dahmer as human, a monster-in-the-making that didn't have to be if he had gotten the help he needed in time to avert his later more extreme behavior.  Some of the scenes from Dahmer's life are bizarre - like an incident where, while on a class field trip to Washington D.C., Dahmer used his persuasiveness by making a blind call from a pay phone to the office of then-Vice President Walter Mondale to secure an invite for a meet-and-greet with himself and his classmates. Incredibly, the Vice President of the U.S. met with students from his class and Dahmer in was in the same office (as was national syndicated columnist Art Buchwald) only feet away.

THE MONSTER OF FRANKENSTEIN TP - This reprints both the color comic book series (1970s Marvel), plus the black & white comics from MONSTERS UNLEASHED magazine.

I've been reading My Friend Dahmer too. It's extra creepy as he grew up one town over from me and is around my mom's age.

Still no Chilling Adventures of Sabrina or Afterlife With Archie (aside from a trade collection).

I hope that Best of Betty and Veronica Vol 2 trade really happens this time, though.

General Discussion / Re: Sears/Kmart

That's a bummer. I remember going into a K-mart once and specifically asking a store clerk if they carried Archie digests, and the answer was "No", although that was a couple of years ago. I do remember seeing them about a year later in Walmart, but lately when I've been in there... once again, no Archie digests. Come to think of it, it's been a while since I've looked at Barnes & Noble, which was the only other place I knew of that I could reliably find them (other than special-ordering through my LCS) so who knows if B&N even carries them now. It would explain a lot.

Barnes and Noble does still carry all of the digests.  From what I can tell, though, at the one near my house, no one looks at them or buys them.

My job called me at 7:50am i saw the voicemail asking me to work a morning shift. I didn't hear my phone didnt get the message until 10:03am ughh too late to go in, of course they call me when my sound is off and my phone is updating :/
