All About Archie / Re: Bend-Ems Figures
August 05, 2019, 09:58:02 AM
Quote from: DeCarlo Rules on August 02, 2019, 07:11:08 AMThe DC figures of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern looked familiar. I already have a boxed set (along with Batman) of those figures, which are based on artist Darwyn Cooke's designs for DC's New Frontier limited series (set in the early 1960s). Batman from the Animated Series is a different design (by Bruce Timm).

It's cool that they'll have Archie, Betty, Jughead, and Veronica -- but no Reggie or Hot Dog? And they'll have Daphne, Scooby-Doo, Shaggy and Velma -- but no Fred? They're absolutely ruining my dream crossover series of ARCHIE MEETS SCOOBY-DOO! Gotta get those anyway. And they made a Harley Quinn figure, but no Poison Ivy? Now I can't play HARLEY & IVY MEET BETTY & VERONICA, either. Aw, shucks!

The comic book characters I'd MOST like to own as a bendable figure? Plastic Man, Elongated Man, or Mister Fantastic -- with extra long arms and legs. I don't think they've ever made any of those.

They may have plans to extend the line (and include those characters in the second set), but, unfortunately, there isn't a lot of information about them online.

Quote from: DeCarlo Rules on August 02, 2019, 07:17:45 AMStatues... WAY too expensive. So if I were to buy one (unlikely) I'd have to absolutely be in LOVE with the design to slap down those kind of bucks. Not these, I'm afraid. Maybe if they hire Dan Parent to do the designs for them.
I reached out to Icon Heroes on IG about their plans for classic Archie statues, and they said "we would love to possibly for later in 2020."

And, speaking of the New York Toy Fair, Bend-Ems also shared a sneak peak of bendable Archie, Betty, Jughead, and Veronica figures, which will be in stores this fall. Will you be picking up a set?

Icon Heroes announced Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Riverdale merchandise at the New York Toy Fair (February 2019), and provided a sneak peak of some of their statues at SDCC (July 2019) - Jughead The HungerSabrina, and Vampironica

What do you think? I really like the Sabrina statue, but I hope (fingers crossed!) they also make classic Archie statues.
I've already shared a few items from my Archie collection on this thread, so I thought some of you might be interested in seeing part of my collection on display at the National Museum of Toys and Miniatures in Kansas City, MO. Toys Inspired by Archie and the Gang will be on display through December.
I'm currently reading Jughead The Hunger Verses Vampironica (#2), Jughead's Time Police (#1), Blossoms 666 (#4), Red Sonja and Vampirella Meet Betty and Veronica (#2), Sabrina The Teenage Witch (#3).

Quote from: Tuxedo Mark on December 23, 2016, 09:39:56 PMA little late this week, but I finally review the 1990 movie, "Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again".

Please note that this is a massively huge post, featuring over 600 screencaps plus other images, and I go into great detail, so you might wanna grab some snacks and drinks before you sit down to read it.
I'll have to check it out! I still have it on VHS, but I haven't seen it in years.

Have you also read the comic? I just picked it up over the weekend at a yard sale, and, as you may already know, it follows the same storyline as the movie. The cover even says "Archie Comics presents To Riverdale and Back Again - 15 Years Later - NBC-TV Movie of the Week Adaptation."

I went to a few local antique stores and bought a complete set of loose Archie Comics cards by Skybox, c. 1992. I already had most of the cards (and an unopened box set), but it is always nice to complete a set in my collection.

I won an auction for books 3-10 of the Archie Riverdale High series by Mike Pellowski.  I already had two of the books, but needed the rest.  I still need the first two books and there was a special as well.  There doesn't seem to be a lot of information out there on the series, but I think there were only the 11 books.

I bought a full set recently on eBay, and, yes, everything I've come across online, indicates there were only 11 books.

  • Trouble with Candy
  • Bad News Boyfriend
  • One Last Date with Archie
  • It's First Love, Jughead Jones
  • The Big Breakup
  • Rich Girls Don't Have to Worry
  • Class Clown
  • My Father, The Enemy
  • Is That Arabella?
  • Good-bye Millions
  • Tour Troubles | Betty Cooper Baseball Star (Summer Special #1)

I bought The U.S. of Archie by Peter Pan Records, c. 1975 from my local antique mall.

That makes merchandise items specifically spawned by The U.S. of Archie incarnation exceptionally rare. Got (or know of) any items specifically merchandised from Archie's T.V. Funnies?
I haven't, but, as I'm always looking (and discovering merchandise I've never seen before), I'll keep you posted!  :)

Very true! I love the hunt, but its becoming harder and harder to find items for my collection in antique stores. I do however seem to come across A LOT of Archie-themed Welch's jelly glasses and McDonald's Happy Meal toys.

Those Welch's glasses are fairly common. It seems like they made several series of those over a few years, during the height of the Filmation cartoons' popularity. They were fairly durable, and people did actually tend to save them and keep them in decent condition.

I was not aware of any Archie McDonald's Happy Meal toys, however. As far I know, the McD Happy Meal toys didn't really become a going 'thing' until the early-to-mid '80s, which would have been beyond the peak awareness period (late 60s to late 70s) for the Archie characters. You may or may not know anything about this, but as far as I can tell there's never been any sort of guide book for Archie collectibles. If you have any photos of those Happy Meal toys, I'd love to see them.
Yes, I have a complete set of Archie-themed jelly glasses from Welch's (12), c. 1971-1973. I haven't focused on finding ones with all the different bottoms, but I recently picked up an extra set (6) in its original packaging. If you haven't seen it, a complete list of jelly glasses can be found online at http://www.jellyjammers.org/welchsjellylist.pdf.

I have a complete set of kid's meal toys from McDonald's (6), c. 1987-1988 and Burger King (4), c. 1991. I recently picked up a few from Ruby's Diner (3), c. 1997, but I'm not sure if it's a complete set or not.

I've seen a few Archie collectibles listed in collector's guides focused on Saturday Morning Cartoons, but generally they only include one or two pages on Archie. I might have to make one!

It's been a great year! I became active on the CGC boards, joined Instagram to show off my collection, and joined this Archie Fan Forum to connect with other collectors and fans. And, as some of you know, I've been focused on collecting vintage Archie merchandise, and my favorite find, my holy grail, is *drum roll* ... Archie's Car by Aurora, c. 1969. I've been searching for this model in mint condition for 20 years.

It seems like this is the right time of year to reflect on our favorite purchases of 2018...

What Archie art, collectibles, and/or comics did you purchase?
