Occupy Riverdale is coming...

It's official - Archie will now be tackling the "occupy" movement...

Never one to shy away from what’s happening in the world around us, Archie Comics will give its distinctive spin on the Occupy movement in an upcoming issue from Archie Meets KISS writer Alex Segura with art by Gisele Lagace.

I heard about this a couple weeks ago and hoped it would go away, much like the real Occupy Movement.  Honestly, I'm slightly horrified by this and can only imagine the kind of superficial, insulting take Archie Comics will have on this "movement" of "useful idiots" for the socialist elitist aristocracy.

On the other hand, there looks like some actual drama here with the Betty versus Veronica and Archie caught in the middle.  Add to that Jill Thompson's excellent cover and take on the characters.  Not to mention, Gisele Lagace and her great renditions being put in the spotlight.  (Archie you really need to do more of this, invite in more guest artists and writers and allow them some freedom in portraying the characters.)  I just wish the subject matter was less pathetic.

Not only is this issue no longer really timely, where was your coverage of the Tea Party, Archie?  They accomplished more than just generating headlines.

Hmmm, interesting, but that would mean Lodge Industries is not the primary employer in Riverdale ?

Otherwise it would amount to a strike.

I mean, honestly, everytime he wants to build something, he has to get it from those meddling kids. I mean, the guy keeps his business in a small town, doesn't export jobs, creates new jobs...can't the man get a break now and again or the benefit of the doubt? :)

Personally, I'm just looking forward to seeing Gisele Lagace's portrayal of Archie and the gang. She used to ink my best friend's pencils on a comic a loooong time ago, so I kinda know her. Anyhow (not to be mean) there's really no current Archie artists that I really like and it will be nice to see new books with good (in my opinion) artwork.

For those interested, here's a sample of Gisele's work:

Gisele used to post here.  Say Harry, any chance of getting her to come back?

Thanks for posting that link.  I didn't know she was doing that.

I LOVE your work, Fernando, and you know it! ;)

And hi, everyone. Haven't posted here in a while. HarryLuceyFan told me about the thread. Thanks, HLF. :)

There's not much more I can add at this point. I'm working on the issue, and also working on a cover.
I *think* Jill's image is the variant cover, which is lovely btw.

I should probably mention that this is not my first work at Archie. I did some work in Archie & Friends #153 and Archie Double Digest #221.

Archie #635, though, is much larger in scale. So many crowds to draw! lol

I hope you all like the issue when it comes out! Now back to drawing!

(Edited the post as I wasn't sure if I could mention the issue number or not, but since I saw it on the Archie blog, guess it's okay.)

Don't worry; you're my favorite current Archie artist.   :)

EDIT:  I completely forgot Rex Lindsey!  Okay, BOTH of you are my current favorite artists.

Don't get me wrong Fernando, I do like your work! You and Rex Lindsey are my favorite current artists at Archie. As in a matter of fact, of all the current artists I feel that you've evolved the most since you started working there. I just have a personal preference for the classic artists' styles like Lucey, DeCarlo, Schwartz and Montanna (on the comic strip). Heck, I'll throw Al Hartley in there too.

Anyhow, I truly meant no disrespect :)

Thanks Harry.  Good to hear from you Gisele.  I guess you're pretty busy.  For your sake, I'll try and check out the issue when it comes out.

Fernando, stop lurking.  Jump into a few more conversations.
